ITEM DESCRIPTION
One of the most popular anime franchises in the United States returns to the PlayStation 2 console. "Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2" revisits the colorful presentation and basic three dimensional fighting gameplay style of 2002's original version. However, the battles of this sequel are bolstered by additional options, more fighters, and new combo attacks. This action packed sequel can definitely be worth picking up for even the most casual fans of the Dragon Ball Z world. The first thing players can notice about "Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2" are the graphics. The graphics in this sequel can boast a look that features cartoon like outlines around characters and objects. Character models are more detailed here than in the original game, and environments are more interactive. The graphics can be best described as cel shaded, a technique designed to mimic Japanese animation. You can find it difficult to distinguish the game from the cartoon with the cel shaded graphics in full effect. The effect is applied to both the characters and backgrounds equally. Even more impressive is that the PS2 can pull this off with little to no slowdown.
The second thing you can notice about "Budokai 2" is its large roster of characters. Unlike previous DBZ video games, this roster features almost every character in the series. Everyone from the Vegeta saga to the Buu saga is present and ready for battle. Main fighters like Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan are available right away. Villains like Frieza, Majin Buu, Kid Buu, and Android 16 are also available. Atari even has plenty of fighters to unlock, including Hercule, Trunks, Babidi, and Dabura. Each character has their own unique fighting style and special attacks. The characters' upgraded forms are also available. For example, Goku can turn into Super Saiyan Goku 3, giving him more power and health. You can fully customize the combatants as well. By finding capsules, you can give your character unique skills. For example, you can increase the power of Goku's fireball or give your opponent reduced health. Through this mode, you can create your ideal version of any Dragon Ball Z fighter.
Gameplay is designed to appeal to gamers of all skill levels. Even PlayStation newcomers can find it easy to pull off even the most devastating attack combos. "Budokai 2" features all of the original modes seen in the previous release. Practice, Versus, Training, and Tournament modes all make a reappearance. While the story mode in Budokai only focused on the first three sagas, "Budokai 2" focuses on the final saga. You can do battle with Majin Buu and his various henchmen. This mode culminates in a final battle against the nefarious Kid Buu, the smallest but arguably the deadliest form of the Majin. After you make your way through the single player modes, you can take the fight to your friends with the versus game type."Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2" is a love letter to fans of the Dragon Ball world. With its deep roster of fighters and impressive graphics, fans will instantly love it. If you own a PS2, this is a must-own game.
